Grace Marian, Psychiatrist
I am a licensed child/adolescent and adult psychiatrist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry. I offer integrative and holistic psychiatric treatment for children, adolescents and young adults, in particular. I also treat older adults and my understanding of development and early challenges better informs my work with them as well. I have a comprehensive approach to healing with a view to addressing whole health incorporating nutritional, genetic, behavioral, environmental and community factors in addition to psychotropic medication treatment, if needed. I specialize in the treatment of Mood and Anxiety issues, Stress and Trauma issues including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Eating Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders (treatment with prior diagnosis), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Attention Deficit and Disruptive Behavior Disorders, Adjustment Issues, and Attachment Issues including with children/adolescents who have been adopted or are in a foster family.
I am a Duke University Medical School graduate and I completed my residency in Psychiatry at San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services in California and a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, I graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry from UCLA and a J.D. from Stanford Law School. Prior to my practice in psychiatry, I worked as an attorney, primarily in patent law with inventors in the medical field, including pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, vaccines and medical devices. In addition to my extensive investigation of the scientific basis for mental and overall health, my psychiatric practice is informed and influenced by the training and experience I have had in many modalities of therapy including: Direct/Indirect Play Therapy, Jungian Sandplay Therapy, Drama/Gestalt Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, CBT, Dance/Somatic Therapy, Native and South American Traditional Healing and Music Therapy. I have practiced psychiatry in Canada and many states, including California, Hawaii and Maine. I also served as a Medical Director of an Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorders Program.
