Richard Herberger, Nurse Practitioner

Richard Herberger helps adults find stability, clarity, and relief from distressing mental health symptoms through thoughtful psychiatric evaluation and medication management. He serves adults across California through LifeStance Health, offering compassionate, evidence-based care for individuals navigating mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and substance use concerns. Richard works with young adults, adults, and seniors, tailoring treatment plans that respect each person’s history, goals, and stage of life. Richard is especially passionate about supporting individuals during high-acuity and high-stress transitions in care. He has extensive experience working with patients recently discharged from psychiatric hospitals, those involved in court-ordered treatment, and individuals requiring disability-related psychiatric documentation. He understands how overwhelming these processes can feel and prioritizes clear communication, continuity of care, and clinical thoroughness to help patients regain a sense of control and stability during vulnerable periods. His clinical focus includes ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety, with additional experience addressing PTSD and trauma-related symptoms, substance use disorders, and sleep disturbances. Richard provides medication management and integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based strategies when appropriate to support symptom regulation, insight, and long-term progress. He has experience working with first responders, military members and veterans, and individuals with head injuries, while also treating a wide range of adults with complex psychiatric needs. Richard practices at LifeStance Health and approaches care with professionalism, respect, and a strong belief in collaborative decision-making. Outside of his clinical work, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, four grown sons, grandchildren, and three dogs.
