Jyothi Ramakrishnan, Post-Doctoral Fellow
I enjoy collaborating with clients to tune into their own inner guidance and intuition. I also enjoy supporting clients who are exploring questions about meaning and purpose in their lives. In my work, I draw from the fields of positive psychology, or the science of happiness and thriving; self-compassion, which focuses on treating oneself with the same kindness that one might treat a friend; and mindfulness, which focuses on the power of returning to and inhabiting the present moment. I also integrate skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on regulating emotions. I have experience working with clients who are interested in spirituality/religion and meditation. Education and Certifications: I completed my doctoral training in Developmental Psychology at the Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota and at the Clinical Science and Psychopathology Research Program, University of Minnesota. I have published research focused on psychological strengths that contribute to resilience, such as mastery motivation and positive emotionality. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Departments of Psychiatry and Pediatric Psychology at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where I provided psychotherapy, diagnostic assessment and neuropsychological assessment to children, adolescents and families. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation residential substance treatment center in Center City, Minnesota, where I provided individual and group psychotherapy, and diagnostic assessment to adults.
