Dr. Shevitz has been in Augusta since 1992. After obtaining his BA from the University of Virginia in Psychology, Dr. Shevitz attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and then went on to do his psychiatric training at Dartmouth Medical School. He has worked in a variety of settings including the Navajo Indian Reservation, Vanderbilt University, and served as Director of Psychiatry at a large general hospital in Eugene, OR before coming to Augusta. Since his arrival in Augusta he has been on the faculty of the Medical College of Georgia serving as Interim Chair on two occasions of the Department of Psychiatry and directed the psychiatry residency training program for 15 years. He has a longstanding interest in the treatment of adults with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and enjoys working at the interface of psychiatry and medicine. He is passionate advocate for ethical, compassionate, and high quality care for the patients he serves.

Dr. Shevitz listens to what I have to say & what I suggest & we make decisions together. I’m very happy to have him. I’ve had many psychiatrists in my past 30+ years of treating my major depression with treatment resistance. I’ve had a handful I truly were happy with. Many that were good & I was doing well & stayed with them & 2 I fired. You can’t ever retire, Dr. Shevitz! Ha-ha! And I have a niece who’s a psychiatrist & researched back when psychiatrist were hard to find. She recommended a few but Dr. Shevitz was on the top of the list. I’m glad he had availability when psychiatrist were in such high demand & hard to find.

This was my first visit with lifeStance. It was a video appointment. I could not find my email with access to the portal. Dr. Shevitz called me because I was late to the appointment. He walked me through log on. That was above and beyond his job. That shows me that he cares for his patients. Of all my doctors appointments in Georgia during the 9 months I have lived here, this is the first that made me think maybe I am making some progress. Maybe there are doctors that care. Maybe I am getting to the Doctors I need. Thank you.

With multiple new and different things going on in my life right now, I ended up forgetting about my Telehealth appointment while at work. But Dr Shevitz called me back anyway to check in with me & to make sure I would have my next refills. I really appreciate his care & concern, and going out of his way to keep my symptoms well managed. … highly recommend.
