Andrew Kaplan, Psychiatrist
Part of Dr. Kaplan’s clinical time is devoted to working with resident physicians from Portsmouth Regional Hospital-HCA Healthcare/Tufts University. Resident physicians are licensed doctors who have completed medical school and are finalizing their specialty training in psychiatry. They are currently completing their 3rd postgraduate year of training at LifeStance Health, Inc. Your initial appointment may either be solely with Dr. Kaplan, or may be with a resident physician with Dr. Kaplan joining towards the end of the appointment to review history, current symptoms, and discuss the plan of care with the resident physician. You would continue to see your resident physician throughout the year and Dr. Kaplan would continue to be involved in your care. Residents change each year in July, but Dr. Kaplan would stay constant as the supervising psychiatrist. **For Telehealth visits, you must be located in New Hampshire or Maine during the visit, and the identified patient should be present and willing to be on screen. Please have current height and weight of the patient for the visit. If under 18, a legal guardian should be present in addition to the patient.** Dr. Kaplan is a licensed, board certified psychiatrist with a sub-specialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Colgate University and pursued his medical education at The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. He was trained in general, child and adolescent psychiatry at Maine Medical Center where he completed his residency and fellowship between 2009 and 2014. While all visits are intended to be therapeutic, and psychotherapy is occasionally added to his follow up visits, Dr. Kaplan’s practice focuses on pharmacological management and he will be happy to provide referrals for psychotherapy if appropriate. Prior to joining LifeStance Health, Dr. Kaplan maintained a large outpatient practice at a community mental health center partnering with families whose children struggled with anxiety, mood, neurodevelopmental and psychotic disorders.
