Andrea Cruz Araujo, Psychiatrist

Dr. Cruz earned her medical degree from the renowned medical school, Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia. She worked as a primary care provider for underserved and vulnerable communities in Colombia in 2012. After completing additional studies in both bioethics and epidemiology, she joined her psychiatry residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA. She has helped train medical students and residents since 2015 and has held leadership positions supervising other psychiatrists.

She specializes in individual therapy and medication management, helping individuals navigate conditions such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and PTSD, among others.

With a patient centered approach, Dr. Cruz tailors each treatment plan to meet the unique needs of her patients. She is particularly passionate about empowering individuals to take an active role in their mental health and to make lifestyle changes that can contribute significantly to their overall wellbeing.

In addition to her psychiatry residency, she is trained in integrative psychiatry. Dr Cruz believes in a holistic approach to mental health combining conventional psychiatric treatments with complementary and alternative therapies. She focuses on the whole person – mind, body, and spirit – and aims to address the root causes of mental health conditions, not just manage symptoms. She is open to working with diverse populations and offers comprehensive care that promotes long-term stability.

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Cruz enjoys traveling, reading, and engaging in outdoor activities. She finds balance through meditation and expresses her creativity through abstract painting. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
