Dr. Melvin Hinton, Psychologist
I work with teens, adults, and older adults across Illinois to navigate life’s challenges and improve emotional well-being. At LifeStance Health, I provide individual and couples therapy for concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties, as well as support during major life changes and stressful transitions.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I draw on experience in correctional, university, and community mental health settings to help you build stability, develop coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. I have a particular interest in supporting individuals navigating complex situations, including recent hospital discharge, legal involvement, or court-ordered care, and I strive to provide a safe, respectful space where you feel understood and supported.
I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, and mindfulness to help you strengthen emotional regulation, gain insight, and move toward your goals. I also offer psychological testing and gender-affirming medical readiness evaluations. My work includes supporting veterans, first responders, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Since starting my clinical work in 2008, I’ve also served in leadership roles, including as Chief of Mental Health Services for the Illinois Department of Corrections, and have taught at the university level. These experiences continue to shape my commitment to providing thoughtful, high-quality care.
Outside of my work, I enjoy travel, college sports, mentoring, and giving back through community service. My goal is to help you feel supported, empowered, and equipped to move forward in a way that feels right for you.
