Marisa Schongalla, Psychologist
Marisa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Honors Psychology program at the University of Michigan in 1998. In 2003, she acquired a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) degree with a special emphasis on child and family therapy, from the California School of Professional Psychology. After a postdoctoral internship at the Department of Child Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente in Hayward, CA, she moved back to Michigan where she has resided since 2004. She has 20+ years of experience working with children and families.
Dr. Schongalla specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents (ages 18-25), and families, with particular interests in the assessment and treatment of ADHD, depression, and anxiety disorders. She uses an eclectic approach, grounded by psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioral strategies and family systems views, which is then tailored to the needs of the individual client and family. Parents are viewed as a crucial part of the treatment team as their child or adolescent learns more effective coping and self-regulation strategies, and Dr. Schongalla welcomes their active participation in the therapeutic process. Dr. Schongalla also strives to work closely with school personnel, primary care physicians, and psychiatrists within the community, to provide the best possible services for the child, adolescent, and family. Dr. Schongalla enjoys spending time with her spouse, 2 kids, and pets, reading, crafting, and traveling.
