Rachel Kekua, Psychologist
Dr. Rachel Kekua (pronounced “keh-koo-ah”) is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in individual therapy with adults across the lifespan, as well as comprehensive psychological assessment with both children and adults. Drawing on extensive experience in healthcare settings, she supports individuals navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, postpartum adjustment, grief, insomnia, and chronic pain.
Dr. Kekua’s therapeutic approach is rooted in curiosity and genuine human connection. She creates a space grounded in trust and mutual respect, helping clients cultivate greater self-awareness and well-being. Her work is informed by humanistic and person-centered foundations, with a strong emphasis on contextual behavioral therapies — including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She also weaves somatic, mindfulness, and compassion-based practices into her work, viewing these as essential to the healing process.
Dr. Kekua has specialized training in psychological evaluation across the lifespan. With young children, she conducts developmental assessments designed to identify early developmental differences, delays, and strengths — providing families with a clearer understanding of their child’s unique needs and a roadmap for support. With adults, she performs comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluations — including assessment for ADHD and autism spectrum — as well as personality testing to better understand patterns of thinking, relating, and functioning that may be impacting daily life.
Her broader clinical background spans primary care and family medicine, specialty evaluations for bariatric surgery and solid organ transplant candidates, inpatient hospital care, and services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. She has also conducted forensic evaluations in the areas of violence risk, sex offender risk assessment, and mental health diversion, utilizing a range of personality and cognitive assessment tools.
