Melissa Long, Therapist
I earned an undergraduate degree for University of Illinois, Chicago with a major in Psychology and minor in Philosophy. Throughout my life, I have always valued helping others by providing a supportive environment and meeting people where they are. I earned my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Governors State University. I believe that education, prevention and intervention are important when assisting my clients to improve areas of their lives. In practice, I take an integrated approach by incorporating Cognitive Behavioral therapy with activities, such as art, play therapy, reflective exercises and many more. I encourage mindfulness, and ultimately guide clients towards finding the best possible ways to improve their life. My goal for all my clients is to help them build the confidence to implement positive and manageable changes. I have experience working in a community practice, working individually and with families for clients ages 5 and up, in an outpatient therapeutic setting. I have experience working with adult individuals in a residential setting who presented with severe and chronic mental illness. I also have worked in a behavioral therapy setting, assisting educational and behavioral changes for children ages 3-12 with Autism.
