Rachael Trevino, Therapist
I graduated from Purdue University with my Bachelors in Psychology and a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. I had always known from a young age that I enjoyed working with children and adolescents, and I quickly figured out that Counseling was the right career path for me. I always valued helping others and providing a supportive surrounding for those who may feel lost, alone or helpless. I earned my Masters from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, with concentrations in Children and Adolescents, and Latino Mental Health. I believe that intervention, education and prevention are key to helping my clients live a healthy and happy life. I practice from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach and like to integrate various other interventions, such as mindfulness, music, art, play and reflective writings, in my client’s treatment. Through my education and own personal experience, I recognize that one’s culture largely impacts their development as a person. In my treatment, I am mindful of my client’s culture and work to utilize that into their individual treatment. In working with children and adolescents, I am a firm believer that their input and involvement in treatment is just as valuable as the adults’ in their life, and always make sure I include their own therapeutic goals in my treatment planning as well. As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe, healthy, kind, supportive, and collaborative environment for my clients. I have experience working in community-based practice, working individually and in a group setting, with clients from age 5 and up, in both a school-based and outpatient therapeutic setting. I have worked in a Residential Treatment facility with adolescents from ages 12-19 who present with a multitude of presenting problems such as anger management, body and self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, stress, and general teen/adolescent issues. I also have experiencing working with early, and late adolescents on life transitions related to life after high school and college. I have worked with clients from various and different cultures and backgrounds. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my dog, Keady. I love to go to concerts and plays and enjoy cheering on my favorite sports teams: the Chicago White Sox and Purdue. I also enjoy cooking, reading and traveling.
