I absolutely love my therapist! She is so smart and intuitive and insightful! And she is the reason I got my autism diagnosis after almost 50 years wondering why I could never be like everyone else, because that's all I ever wanted and never felt. Well it's because I'm NOT like everyone else! And that is what makes me uniquely special ME! AND most importantly, I finally love ME! I love that I have a strong conviction of what is right and what is wrong, but have learned to be open enough to listen and contemplate new information and make sure it's in the correct category! It's called evolving, and it's important for posterity's sake! Anyway, I'm such a completely different and so much more aware human, and although I am far from greatness still, at least I know I am doing the best I can and am willing to do better! And she had a lot to do with that, just by listening to me and guiding me in the right direction in a way that I understood!! And let me tell you, I've been going to doctors and therapists since I was 3 years old! That's when my mom started asking what was wrong with me! And they would spend a few minutes asking me questions and talking to me, then proclaim to my mom I was just like everyone else. So that is what she said to me whenever I embarrassed her or couldn't do a chore or got in trouble or something. I just got so overwhelmed with all the chaos around me and I didn't know why or what to do about it. And it took some time to process so I would always just rock in the rocking chair until I was settled down again. This went on my entire life. And although I still need to just sit and rock until I can calm down enough to rationalize my thoughts and feelings again, I can do so without feeling guilty or wrong, just accepting and aware of who I am and my process! It's amazing how long it took to find the right therapist, but I had no idea there was such a thing. Not even after having ones that were completely wrong did I know there would be one so right and understand how to interpret my language. She speaks "Vikki"! So maybe you can find yourself a compatible therapist, also! Never give up! Therapy works for everyone wanting to figure themselves and their issues out, and it's nothing to be ashamed of! Quite the contrary! Everyone should celebrate looking for ways to make themselves happier and more self aware! So reach out to someone today! You are not alone! We all need to change things about ourselves we know can be better, and the self insight you find in therapy is nothing to be feared or ashamed of!
