Karen Kiser-Mikulanec, Therapist
Karen is a seasoned Licensed Professional Counselor who places value on the individual, their life experience and perspective. Karen is skilled at helping adult and clients address life transitions, grief/loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, substance abuse as well as traumatic brain injury. For individuals, families and couples, Karen identifies areas of strength within the family structure as well as identifying emotional and verbal abuse that affect the balance and the overall quality of relationships.
With Karen’s background in neuroscience she is trained to identify the behavioral changes that result with TBI and is able to educate and counsel not only those injured but family members who often are not educated regarding the behavioral changes that occur after injury. Karen’s specialties also include educating and counseling families who live with verbal/emotional abuse. She brings a careful expertise for an intelligent assessment and provides rich insight based on experience and study that has proved valuable to individuals and families coping and recovering from a variety of cultural, social and psychological issues.
Karen earned her master’s degree at Concordia University in 2003, which emphasized clinical psychology and neuroscience. At the core of her counseling practice is compassion, not just as an approach, but as authentic and necessary to promote the fruition of personal identity and quality relationship to the rest of the world.
An active member of her Catholic parish, Karen also offers Christian counseling services to clients who look to integrate their spiritual life into their growth and recovery.
